Templates Overview

Learn how to create and manage document templates in Crove.

Templates

Templates are the foundation of document automation in Crove. A template is a reusable document design with dynamic variables that get replaced with real data when someone fills the form.

Creating a template

  1. Navigate to Templates in the sidebar
  2. Click Create Template
  3. Enter a name for your template
  4. You'll be taken to the template editor

You can also:

  • Duplicate an existing template to use it as a starting point
  • Import a template from a file
  • Clone from Gallery to start with a pre-built template

Template structure

Every template has three main components:

1. Document content

The rich text document designed in the template editor. This is your document's layout — headings, paragraphs, tables, images, and dynamic variables.

2. Form schema

The form configuration that determines what fields recipients see. Built in the form builder, the form is automatically generated from your variables but can be fully customized.

3. Variable system

The variables and expressions that power dynamic content. Variables are placeholders in your document; expressions compute values automatically.

Managing templates

Search and sort

Use the search bar to find templates by name. Sort by newest, oldest, or alphabetically.

Duplicate a template

Click the three-dot menu on any template card and select Duplicate. This creates an exact copy with all variables, form fields, and settings preserved.

Delete a template

Click the three-dot menu and select Delete. This action is permanent and cannot be undone.

Rename a template

Click the three-dot menu and select Rename to change the template's display name.

Template settings

Inside the template editor, you can configure:

SettingDescription
Public fillEnable a public link that anyone can use to fill the form
DownloadableAllow respondents to download the completed PDF
Redirect URLWhere to send respondents after form completion
Custom fontsUpload and use custom fonts in your document (Pro+)

Template versioning

Crove automatically saves versions of your template as you work. You can:

  • View the version history
  • Preview any previous version
  • Restore a previous version if needed

Exporting data

CSV export

Export all responses collected through a template as a CSV file. Navigate to the template and use the Export CSV option. This exports all variable values across all documents created from this template.

DOCX export

Export individual documents as DOCX files for editing in Microsoft Word or Google Docs.
